Ok,

So I finally decided to figure out this VNC thing. I got TightVNC running. I start VNCserver and let it default (localhost:1).

Then I goto my Win2K machine and VNC to it, type in my pass word, and I have the background image, but nothing else. No menu. Right click doesn't bring up a menu... nothing.

Same thing happens via web browser AND from the linux box itself. I've got KDM running, KDE 3.1.

I couldn't find anything on google or the vnc website. I'd really like to figure this out so I can maybe administer my mom's box via her lovely dial-up. 8O

:edit: Oh, where, exactly is the script for starting it automatically? Tks!

Much thanks in advance for any and all help.

KJ

The script will answer both questions.
edit ~/.vnc/xstartup
change that to the WM you want to use. I use fluxbox becuase it does well across slow connections.

More info here : http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/

Ok, thanks for the script... I kept looking for where the default one was, but I was looking in the x defaults, not the vnc.

I use icewm becuase its the lightest wm with a menu bar on the bottom, which, I'm attached to. I may get around to fluxbox in the future! (I think there's a small docking program out there, but I've other things to worry about right now.)

For instance... I My interaction is a bit limited. I can type something into the xterm and it comes up, but none of the menus work, which really blows.

Any ideas on this? I can click the button, it comes up, but when I "go right" for the exspansion, it's nothing there... except the one to xterm. errr.......

Once again, many thanks.
