I have a laptop with a wireless nic and connect to many different access points. When I start the system it hangs at the point of starting netmount if it is not connected to my home lan. I suppose because it can't find the folder set in /etc/fstab. How could I make netmount start only when connected to my home lan?

Have you looked at using softlevels? It talks about using it to avoid starting eth0, but the same principle should be applicable to starting netmount.
