Hey all...
I been using gentoo for sometime now, loving it most of the time. Im already starting annoy myself on windows so seems im improving. but some things i still dont get running under gentoo now mather what i read / try.
currently i got sound using the emu10k1 sound as module in the kernel, i got 5.1 sound system but only get good sound from 1 or max 2 speakers, ppl say use emu-tools, well i did, but when i run ./emu-script or any other command it doesnt do anything, no error, no next line, just hangs, i need to ctrl-c to break it and then of course the script didnt adjust it.
another thing is, lirc, i can make my own config file and he registers that all, but i dont get it to work with programs or show output.
and last but not least, since i also still have windows on my other disk (ya i know im not completely there), I cant get wine / winex to run kazaa or other similiar program
if you guys got any tips / links i should read (which I probally did already), i would appreciate that

I don't know much about sound, so I'll skip your first question.
I have lirc working, what kind of ir receiver are you using?
For wine/ kazaa check out http://frankscorner.org
I have kazaa working fine I just emerged wine, edited the config file and followed the instructions at http://frankscorner.org/kazaa_lite_2_0.html and it works fine.

For IR have you tried this config file http://lirc.sourceforge.net/remotes/leadtek/
Or try something like this:
Quote: | To make your own lircd.conf file
$ irrecord myremote
Follow the on-screen directions to train your remote and define keys. If your remote ends up working well, you should consider submitting your lircd.conf file back to the lirc developers. Once finished:
$ su
# cp myremote /etc/lircd.conf |
I took this from http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-8.html |
