|

I can't for the life of me work out where to start with my 2006.1 Installation.
I've booted from the CD and am ready to go.
But now what?
How do you start the installer?
The handbook refers to the "Partitioning Screen", so I would guess that there IS an installer hidden in there somewhere. How do I get it to show itself?
If I type "inst" and hit TAB I get the option to invoke "installer", but this requires parameters which don't seem to bear any resemblance to what I'm trying to do.
Look, I'm not a noob at Linux, but this has got me foxed. _________________ "I'm a Snake if we Disagree" - Jethro Tull, "Bungle in the Jungle" |

My recommendation avoid installer and go for console manual mode is safer and prof to work all this years
GUI installer has some problem so try to avoid as much as you can for now. _________________ www.gentoo.ro |

Hi (just a suggestion)
Why don't you try to install Gentoo using the conventional way ? I mean without the installer ... It's good because this process makes you more comfortable with Gentoo. I know that Gentoo developers are doing a great job with the installer but considering my case I've gained a lot of confidence doing the process without any gui at all
When booting you have just to type and follow the handbook.

What is Minimal LiveCD? AFAIK there is minimal CD which contains no install scripts, i.e. it is intended for a normal stage 3 install - and LiveCD which starts to GUI by default. As previous posters stated, the manual stage 3 install is the way to go. _________________ My Gentoo installation notes.

Along with the stage 3 install guide, have a look at the flash tutorials at tutorialmasters.com (see my sig). It follows the documentation and shows the installation process. _________________ WebServerMasters

Fair enough.
If you guys think I shouldn't use the gui at all, I can do that.
So I type in "gentoo nox" as suggested, but the installer doesn't care; it just sits there looking at me. _________________ "I'm a Snake if we Disagree" - Jethro Tull, "Bungle in the Jungle" |

Actually, I've done several gentoo installations since 1999 and I can't remember having a problem.... _________________ "I'm a Snake if we Disagree" - Jethro Tull, "Bungle in the Jungle" |

Just follow the instructions from the handbook and you'll be fine.

BTW, there no X on the minimal CD, the nox parameter does nothing.
Besides, minimal CDs do not contain any installer, stage3 or portage snapshots.
