Hi,

I'd like to change my present video-card for something newer. (FX 5500 to 7800), also want to change DVD-ROM to a newer one.
How can I do that without troubles?

well just change it and reemerge the drivers of nvidia(this step i m not so sure if you already have an nvidia card), reconfigure xorg and that should do it. The DVD-ROM shouldn't be a problem to change it

If you switch from an nvidia card to an nvidia card and you use nvidia's binary drivers you won't need to change any configurations. Nor will you need to change anything for an optical drive upgrade.

Turn the box off, remove the old nvidia, plug the new nvidia, turn it on.

EDIT, I assume both cards use the same bus, might it be pcie or agp.

Well DVD-Rom is a problem :?. After changing it to new one, dvd cannot be ejected with a button !
I'm using KDE 3.5.5.
I re-emerged udev, hal, d-bus and kdebase-kioslave but nothing changed.
To eject cd I have to go to konqueror/media and click eject.
I've got also DVD recorder but it works fine.
I don't know how to solve that problem.
