This may seem like a stupid question, but when I shut down Gentoo, it works successful and the hard drive turns off, but the screen stays on. Both Mac OS 9 and my old Linux 2.2-based distribution shut down completely. My computer is an iMac DV 'slot-loading' 400 mhz.
Some searching brought up this ppckernel page which suggests that any 2.4 kernel is doomed . . .
In this thread I read that kernel 2.4.20-r2 fixed someone's problems, but I'm running 2.4.20-r3 . . .
Is there a kernel option I'm missing. I read somewhere there was one for i386 under 'General Options', doesn't seem to exist on ppc. The PMU options are turned on (menuconfig told me PMU was for anything newer than a really old iMac, and anything with AGP). An older kernel where I had PMU turned off also had this problem. In fact, all my 2.4 kernels (all Gentoo ppc-sources) had this problem. |
