I have ALSA semi-working with my onboard nForce2 sound and the intel-8x0 driver. It will output sound, but when one application starts playing sound, no other apps can play sound. I have net-rhythmbox playing MP3s now, and if I try to make gaim or aplay produce anything, they just sit there starting dumbly at me.
Also, sometimes sound just starts cracking up for no reason with tons of static, and I have to stop playing it and start over again. Slightly annoying...
I've gotten ALSA working great on a Turtle Beach card and Creative card, and haven't had any of these problems.
Any suggestions/help would be great |

Some cards can do hardware mixing and some can't. I'm guessing that previous cards you've used could accept multiple input sources and mix them together while the sound on you board can't. If you really need this functionality, you can run a software sound server like arts or esd, but be aware that it will incur a performance penalty.
I suspect that the static is due to marginal hardware or a driver problem, but I'm totally guessing. _________________ Sometimes the appropriate response to reality is to go insane.
