|
|
Hi, I often need some software to do a specific task and can't find it. There is something that can do that for Linux in 99% of the cases but it's not always easy to find. So I propose a new forum for that (I can't think of a good title and I'm not a native speaker). I've already seen it on another site (http://www.debianforum.de/forum/viewforum.php?f=28, in German) and I think it's really useful. Existing posts will be easier to find and common questions could be stickied or something. I think the main advantage is that it will make finding the infos easier because the forum search is not so good and will yield better results if confined to one forum.
Do you think that would be useful? Do you think many people try to find software on this forum? Is it too much work?
Please excuse me, if my English is off (it's late here) or if someone already proposed that. I couldn't find something like that. Thanks for reading. _________________ Please add [SOLVED] to your message title if your problem is solved.

Software is one case, hardware the other. We've got plenty of threads about which laptop, mp3 player, digicam etc to buy and they don't quite fit in any forum (most are posted in Kernel and Hardware, but I wouldn't consider them support requests, others in OTW where it's hard to find them). Therefore I like the idea but would extend it to hardware (probably two different forums, maybe subforums). _________________ KDE |

I think that's a good idea as long as they are kept separate. Mixing hardware and software searches would clutter the forum too much, IMHO. _________________ Please add [SOLVED] to your message title if your problem is solved.

Yeah I think it's a good one too, as is another forum for hardware. |

I think it would be a nice addition to the forums as well.

one for HW, one for SW; both maybe as subforums for OTG _________________ Nothing is secure / Security is always a trade-off with usability / Do not assume anything / Trust no-one, nothing / Paranoia is your friend / Think for yourself |
