Hello
I moved from Celeron laptop to a much more powerful Core 2 Duo machine with ATi Mobility Radeon X1600 on board. I wanted to setup splash using classic procedures which are working on my previous equipment. But there's no effect. Initramfs does not load (the best I get is a black 1024x768 screen using vesafb-tng on my 1280x800 screen), and splash added to default runlevel doesn't produce any info when launched (but it is launched at start) and does not set images. The only thing that works is splash_manager --theme=... but I'm not pleased, because on Celeron machine everything worked perfect. Soon I'll post links to grub.conf and emerge --info. By now, does anybody have any ideas? I even moved to testing kernel 2.6.20-r4, but it didn;t help...
Small update: it is so, because ${SPLASH_MODE_REQ} is set to "off". But what'sthat variable and how to enable it?
