Hi,

I just finished my install and I have a few queries..

Firstly, what do I need to emerge now I've finished, I know about gnome and openoffice, but what about things like ati drivers, X, xorg, XF86. sorry I must sound dull...

Also is there a way to increase the resolution on boot after you hit enter at grub? I've seen some nice start ups but I don't know how to change it.

Thanks alot
Alex

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Other Things Gentoo as it is post-installation.

Take a look at http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/?catid=desktop as it contains guides to get, X11, sound, Gnome and other things running.

See http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_fbsplash for setting up a nice looking/high resolution prompt.

Hello and welcome to Gentoo.

If you haven't got it yet then you will need to install Xorg. The documentation pages have all you need to help you. Take a look at
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/xorg-config.xml . You can choose whether you want to use the ATI drivers or the Radeon driver.
Searching the Gentoo Wiki http://gentoo-wiki.com/Main_Page is also useful. There are HOW TOs on configuring the kernel to use the drivers.
The same goes for Framebuffer support to get a higher resolution on boot. http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Framebuffer_Support

Thats great, thanks very much for you help,

I'm currently in work, so I will try all that when I get home and have a go at it. Gnome has alot of packages and is going to take days to compile!

Cheers
Alex
