Hi all, I have gentoo installed on an AMD64 system. I can't find how I can get flash support in firefox 2.0.3. Who can help me with that?
Greetings and thanks, |

This may sound stupid but why don't you go onto the adobe website and download the flashplayer and then put the library in the plugin folder? _________________ Please put [SOLVED] when you've found the solution. It makes everyone's lives easier.
From FreeBSD to Gentoo. Now lets have ago at Arch. (It's just not the same)

Same reason we aren't running LFS, package management...
Plus it's a 32 bit plugin and a 64 bit browser, so you still need a wrapper and I don't believe Adobe provide one (though I could be wrong) |

I thought firefox was only made in 32-bit. I don't think there is a 64-bit version. _________________ Please put [SOLVED] when you've found the solution. It makes everyone's lives easier.

Perhaps you should tell the browser I'm currently using that...
Code: | Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-GB; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070321 Firefox/2.0.0.3 |
Code: | $ readelf -h firefox-bin
ELF Header:
Magic: 7f 45 4c 46 02 01 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
Class: ELF64
Data: 2's complement, little endian
Version: 1 (current)
OS/ABI: UNIX - System V
ABI Version: 0
Type: EXEC (Executable file)
Machine: Advanced Micro Devices X86-64
Version: 0x1
Entry point address: 0x4038c0
Start of program headers: 64 (bytes into file)
Start of section headers: 89080 (bytes into file)
Flags: 0x0
Size of this header: 64 (bytes)
Size of program headers: 56 (bytes)
Number of program headers: 9
Size of section headers: 64 (bytes)
Number of section headers: 28
Section header string table index: 27 |
If you compile a 64 bit version, you have a 64 bit version. |

ok so theres a 64-bit version, then why don't you just install the 32-bit. _________________ Please put [SOLVED] when you've found the solution. It makes everyone's lives easier.

Are you on the level here or just trolling?
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt - basically, we're running a source based distro. We don't need or generally want a load of binary 32 bit duplicate libraries etc just for a freaking web browser. Esp as there's no problem with a 64 bit native install. You don't run 16 bit software on your 32 bit system do you? |

I've followed this guide http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Flash_9_and_Firefox and it works. But there is one problem that gets annoying. That is the flash object only recognizes one click until you click somewhere off of the object then it will recognize one more click. It's not bad for watching youtube or other vids, but flash games are probably impossible. Others have had this problem and there doesn't seem to be a fix yet |
