I tried installing VMware Player today, and for some reason, all texts in the VMware user interface appear as strings of boxes instead of letters -- even file names on local file systems.
I have tried setting the LANG, LANGUAGE and LC_ALL variables to various values, such as "C", "en", "en_US", "en_US.UTF-8", and none of these changed anything. I even deleted the '/opt/vmware/player/lib/messages/ja' directory, but no avail.
Whenever starting vmplayer, this is printed out: Code: | /opt/vmware/player/lib/bin/vmplayer: /opt/vmware/player/lib/lib/libpng12.so.0/libpng12.so.0: no version information available (required by /usr/lib32/libcairo.so.2) |
Not sure if it has anything to do with the problem.
I am using x11-libs/cairo-1.4.2, and tried vmware-player versions 1.0.2.29634 (stable) as well as 1.0.3.34682 (~amd64). I'm running on an AMD64 box, kernel 2.6.19-gentoo-r6. Not sure what else would be relevant.
