I'm installing gentoo on a dual pIII system with onboard raid. When I run the default kernel on the cd for the install it detects my raid array and assignes the devices hd namespaces, but when I run the smp kernel it doesn't recognize them at all. Please help. _________________ "If art interprets our dreams, the computer executes them in the guise of programs!" -SICP |

There is a lack of information here since we don't know the brand of the raid controller.
The smp kernel, is that your own compile kernel or a kernel from the LiveCD?
If it is from your own compiled kernel, the chances are that the driver is:
1. not configured into the kernel
2. No driver exists in the kernel version you donwloaded.
Bottom line is that we need to know more about the kernel versions, the raid controller etc.

Go through the installation using the "gentoo" kernel (yes, it will only be using 1 CPU)
When you get to compile your own kernel, enable SMP and hptraid, that's all there is to it.
When you get to the bootloader part, search the forums for grub + highpoint, because this can give you some trouble. |

Thanks again,

The correct CFLAGS for a dual pIII would be the same as a single pIII.
I usually run conservative flags like : CFLAGS="-march=pentium3 -O2 -pipe" |
