Kernelkompilierung und Hardware

Hallo Gentoocommunity,

ich möchte mir Gentoo installieren und bin nun bei der Kernelcompilierung. Allerdings ist das doch etwas komplizierter als ich es mir vorgestellt habe. Natürlich kenne ich meine Hardware, aber irgendwie will das Programm mehr wissen als nur welcher Prozessor, welches Mainboard, welche Soundkarte, ... in meinem Rechner steckt. Aber was nun beispielsweise mein Prozessor alles kann oder nicht und welche Punkte wie und wo gesetzt werden müssen ist doch eine schwierige Frage und damit fühle ich mich überfordert. Wo bekomme ich die entscheidenden Details über meine Hardware her. Braucht man dazu tiefgründiges Fachwissen oder hat man auch als Normalbenutzer eine Chance? Natürlich kann ich auch die Alternative nutzen und Genkernel verwenden, aber dann kann man auch direkt eine Standarddistribution verwenden (oder sehe ich das zu streng)

Mit Linux hatte ich bislang nur am Rande zu tun, aber wenn ich etwas neues lerne, dann möchte ich das gleich richtig tun und glaubt man diversen Forenbeiträgen soll Gentoo besser sein als die Standarddistributionen Suse, Red Hat, Ubuntu und co., weil alles kompiliert wird und somit an die eigene Hardware angepasst wird, also keine Software "von der Stange" ist.
