Hello,
firstly I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I have no idea really, what dbus is or what it does, and for this reason I also have no idea where to look for pointers, so I'm totally in the dark here.
So, the problem showed when I tried to install the new Cedega (6.0). I keep getting the following console output:
Code: | F1 2007-04-14 07:04:17,692 WARNING Optical drive detection: dbus is either not running or is not installed. |
I also cannot install any games with Cedega, CPU usage goes up to around 100%, but nothing happens and there is also no console output. If I hit stop on the gui, the following comes up in the console:
Code: | process 9068: arguments to dbus_connection_unref() were incorrect, assertion "connection != NULL" failed in file dbus-connection.c line 2610.
This is normally a bug in some application using the D-Bus library.
D-Bus not built with -rdynamic so unable to print a backtrace
ERROR: wineserver exiting unexpectantly! |
This, and the tip to start the dbus service led me to assume the problem is with this. However, trying the /etc/init.d/dbus start command comes back with the following:
Code: | helios dinchamion # /etc/init.d/dbus start
* Starting D-BUS system messagebus ...
Failed to start message bus: Failed to read directory "/etc/dbus-1/system.d": No such file or directory |
I checked and reemerged all the dbus-stuff, but the problem persists. Everything works perfectly with the older Cedega (5.2.3), and I'm not in any particular need for the new one - however it's really annoying me now.
Again, I'm totally in the dark here, not knowing what dbus is and what it does, so I'm pretty much stuck here. Don't even know where to start to look. _________________ Dín

I just removed these lines from /etc/dbus-1/system.conf (or, create the directory if you prefer): Code: | <!-- Config files are placed here that among other things, punch
holes in the above policy for specific services. -->
<includedir>system.d</includedir> |

Woot, that took care of the problem, thanks!
However, can someone share a few word to explain some basic stuff about dbus - what it is, what it does? Or point me towards some guide or something? _________________ Dín

The Wikipedia article on dbus is a good overview. The external links at the end of the article go into more technical depth. |
