I apologize in advance, but i'm a n00b at gentoo, but:
has anybody ever tried making a software raid1 array with one of the drives mounting an NFS directory?
Let me explain why: I have a server at work (running gentoo) that hosts my data through NFS as well as SAMBA. I only use my laptop to do work. My laptop mounts the data through NFS at boot. However, if I am disconnected from the network, I have no access. I would like to achieve two goals, the first is have off- and on-line access to my data. The second goal is to have a seamless mirroring of the data between the laptop and the server for security reasons.
I thought about it and I came up with the idea of having a software based raid1 array of my data with one local drive and one NFS mounted drive.
After thinking about it some more, I realized that, although possible, I would have to rebuild the array every time I disconnected/reconnected to the internet.
So: my question (finally): does anyone know of a better way to achieve data access on-line and off-line and real time updating of that data while on line?
Thanks -B
