hi!

i had beryl working. after my last update deep world it refuse to start or actually it kind of works:

when started i can rotate the cube but everything that should be shown on the desktop is not visible to me. :(

but everything works the way it is intended to. i just can't see it. for example i can open a terminal (via shortcut) and execute commands. (killall kdm or reboot,....)
and another interessting thing: the mouse cursor adapts to its context as usual. if i open up a kwrite window the "standard"-cursor turns into a "text"-cursor if i move the mouse over the (invisible) window an it changes back if i leave the window.

it works, but i can't see it. just a "screenshot"...

the following packages were updated:

libXfixes (x11/libs)
inputproto (x11/proto)
randrproto (x11/proto)
libXi (x11/libs)
libXrandr (x11/libs)
libXdamage (x11/libs)
libXcomposite (x11/libs)

dbus-glib (dev/libs)
man (sys-apps)
alsa-headers (media-sound)

any ideas what could cause that problem or how to fix it??

thank in advance for your help.

The same problem her, I'm running on nvidia-drivers, and a friend of mine, with radeon and aiglx.

Nothing appears on the screen until I move the window, then the new status show. It just look like a screenshot, until I move the window.

I didn't notice what packages has been updated, because I was too busy concentating on the new mplayer USE-flags

EDIT: Sorry for the typos, but I can't see whats going on before I move to the next "screenshot".
EDIT 2: I'm in kwin now, a killall beryl got me switched, and I also fixed the typos. Kwin seems to get along fine.

I have the same problem exactly, however, I also failed to note what packages had been updated.

I vaguely remember the libX? preface in the update lineup and it would seem they are the problem.

Is worthwhile to re-emerge the Xorg modular packages to an earlier version?

****EDIT***
A fix is here; https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-554200-highlight-beryl.html

Someone else had a thread marked solved for the same thing. There were 3 X libraries that had to be masked... but I can't remember where to find that thread. Sorry. ^_^;;

1176999277: >>> unmerge success: x11-libs/libXfixes-4.0.1
1176999277: >>> emerge (2 of 7) x11-proto/randrproto-1.2.0 to /
1176999287: >>> unmerge success: x11-proto/randrproto-1.1.2
1176999287: >>> emerge (3 of 7) x11-proto/inputproto-1.4 to /
1176999296: >>> unmerge success: x11-proto/inputproto-1.3.2
1176999296: >>> emerge (4 of 7) x11-libs/libXi-1.1.0 to /
1176999335: >>> unmerge success: x11-libs/libXi-1.0.1
1176999335: >>> emerge (5 of 7) x11-libs/libXdamage-1.1.1 to /
1176999355: >>> unmerge success: x11-libs/libXdamage-1.0.3
1176999355: >>> emerge (6 of 7) x11-libs/libXrandr-1.2.1 to /
1176999379: >>> unmerge success: x11-libs/libXrandr-1.1.1
1176999379: >>> emerge (7 of 7) x11-libs/libXcomposite-0.3.1 to /
1176999399: >>> unmerge success: x11-libs/libXcomposite-0.3

ok, the thread is here:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-554200-highlight-beryl.html
bugreport with a workaround:
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=175196

and the solution
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=174959#c7

Just rebuild x11-base/xorg-server and it should start to work again.

It did not do the job for me :-(.

I even tried to re-emerge the whole beryl, xorg-x11, libX11 and nvidia-drivers, with no luck. I also tried to reboot the computer (!), but beryl only want to acknowledge kwin WM.

Maybe I shall try downgrade some of the libraries that got upgraded?!

Edit:
Actually, i did mask
Code:
=x11-proto/randrproto-1.2.0
=x11-libs/libXrandr-1.2.1

and did emerge -uDN world, and now beryl is working again :-).
But thats only a dirty woraround.
