|
|
Hi,
I was wondering about the two different installations, one beeing the 32bit and one 64bit. Both using a 64 bit kernel. Now my question is.. If i take the 64 bit one, will i be able to use flash? Or should i just go with 32bit ppc ?
And, how long .. will the install take approximately?
Thanks . _________________ It's not teh size of the hammer, it's how you wield it! |

flash9 works in a 64bit environment with the use of nspluginwrapper.
64bit setup and configuration will take a little less or an equal amount of time to finish
than 32bit. I say go with 64bit. |

ok, i'll go ahead and do that . One last question though, any thoughts about the whereabouts of the gentoo.bld file ? Can't seem to find it.
**EDIT** Nevermind, you don't need it anymore it seems, just the minimal-installcd iso is enough.** _________________ It's not teh size of the hammer, it's how you wield it! |

As other have said the official Adobe flash plugin does not work on ppc64. I think there are two open source solutions called swfdec and gnash which make viewing flash ads possible though a bit flawed. Last I heard about the 64bit userland was that it takes more memory but that may be fixed now. _________________ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cell_(microprocessor) |

Well, i'm now running my PS3 with Gentoo ppc64 32user land. Busy installing mozilla-firefox and then i'll probably take one of the open source solutions for flash. To bad adobe flash isn't supporting PPC.
And yes, 64ul vs 32ul .. 64ul does seem to use more memory. I've had both installed and 32ul is performing better then 64ul. _________________ It's not teh size of the hammer, it's how you wield it! |
