Switch display mode for screensaver?

Can XScreensaver be configured to switch to a specified display mode before launching the screen hack, then restore the previous mode on exit?

I have a large, high-resolution monitor but an older video card. Many OpenGL hacks running in my normal display mode (1920x1440) absolutely crush the GPU--I'm lucky to get one (1) frame per second. If I could persuade XScreensaver to drop to a more manageable resolution--say, 1024x768--as it takes over the display, and return to my normal mode afterward, the rendering-heavy screen hacks like Atlantis would be a lot more entertaining.

Anyone know how this can be done, if at all?

No idea, since it works in daemonized mode, unless it specifically has that feature, I doubt there's much to do about it.

But surely, if you use xlockmore, you could achieve that effect with a simple bash script, just with xrandr. Not tested but it should work (tm).
