|
|
Hi...
I can't get this streaming video to play on my system and I wonder if it's gentoo compatible.
Does anyone have the ability to watch it?
Thanks! _________________ "Primum non nocere" ---Galen

That's funny... I have: Code: |
$ emerge -av mozilla-firefox netscape-flash
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Is there anything necessary to enable it?

It works ok here in seamonkey. You should need just flash, and -maybe- javascript, for the rest, it should work (tm). Konqueror, though, fails miserably... surely another konqi javascript issue (also tm). |

Well, I don't remember. I know before there were times that I've had to link to a codec. Enter about:plugins in your address bar and it will show you what is enabled. It also links to mozdev.
I apologize for sending you to the docs. If I could remember the process......... |

Are you running an 64-bit environment? I'm running 64-bit and with firefox and nspluginwrapper I can't watch it. But I can watch it with the bin version of firefox and seamonkey, but that kinda sucks cause they're both 32-bit _________________ AMD Athlon64 X2 4200+ AM2

I am using seamonkey with nsplugins-wrapper and flash 9 on amd64. And it works with a 64 bit seanmonkey (no -bin).
With my usual browser which is konqueror, it fails to play, but I don't think it is a plugins issue, since the page doesn't load at all. It is more likely to be a javascript issue. |

I have a 32-bit environment... At that site I get a blue video screen with a "loading" message, that eventually times out, without any video appearing.
This is a new laptop, and I haven't installed java yet. That makes 6thpink's suggestion of it being a javascript issue very plausible. Have to decide between sun and blackdown...
Any suggestion?? _________________ "Primum non nocere" ---Galen |

Javascript and Java are two different things. I don't have any java vm in this machine either. And Javascript however, works ok. It is just that konqueror doesn't play nice with it.
You should have javascript on unless you explicitly turned it on in your mozilla configuration. So, I doubt it is your problem. If the thing times out, maybe it is a bandwidth/connection issue, or maybe it is just flash acting funky, as it ever does. |

That shows my limited knowledge about multimedia things...
The tech support faq regarding this issue reads: Quote: |
Q: I can enter the site, but the videos do not play.
A:
If you see a 'loading' message, black screen, or can only view advertisements, we recommend the following steps:
[Note that some company firewalls prevent streaming content from displaying. If you are unable to view streaming content on any site from your computer, we recommend you contact your network administrator.]
Make the following change in Windows Media Player to permit the stream though a firewall:
Launch Windows Media Player.
Choose Tools > Options
Click on the Network tab.
Check the HTTP box under Protocols.
Select the Configure button located in the Proxy Settings box.
Select "Use browser proxy settings."
Close WMP and any open media files.
Return to the site.
Upgrade to the latest version of Windows Media Player.
To check for updates
Launch Windows Media Player
Choose Help > Check for Player Updates |
Being on a gentoo system, I use, of course, mplayer... Is that likely an issue? _________________ "Primum non nocere" ---Galen |

I have the same problem with that video. If I disable the adblock+ extension, it plays fine. 32bit environment here. |

That's it! Disabling adblock lets the video come through. How dumb is that?

I love firefox extensions, but they can be a hassle when one of them breaks a web page. I wish firefox had an option to disable all extensions in one swoop to help figuring these things out. |
