laptop audio sounds like something is wrong - intel 8x0

I have a toshiba m30x. Integrated audio, intel8x0. I have tried alsa, jack, and even rt-kernel to resolve this. The audio sounds like it is clipping. It is a lot louder than it is in windows, so I think it's almost like its getting too much signal or something. I have searced for this and found nothing. Any ideas?

Have you tried to lower the PCM Mixer Slider?
