|
|
I've had recently a problem with some QT doc pages , such as :
http://doc.trolltech.com/4.2/qtreewidget-members.html
I'm on AMD64, with KDE/Konqueror 3.5.5
On those pages, Konqueror takes ages to display the page, and once displayed, the links are not ready to be clicked for as long as one full minute.
At this time, the browser is completely stalled (very much Microsoftish, IYSWIM)
Thanks for any clue |

yes, takes a while, my guess is - that page is completly bloated.
i am on ADSL2+ (16mbit down) but it takes really long, agreed
KDE 3.5.6, btw, though..
i guess it is the preload, konqueror trys to cache this all or what, dunno.
hmpf, why do you view such things online? |

I don't know what's happening ... Viewing the source code nothing seems to be too heavy for loading: a few <li> tags. I have disabled Javascript globally but that doesn't help either.
In Firefox 2.0 and IE (via wine) loads quited good and very fast. A known konqueror bug with some html tags combination? It's "funny" to see how konqueror get collapsed trying to render a qt webpage xD.
Does anyone know something about this issue? |

i am aware that konqueror on AMD64 got pretty unstable anyway since a few -rx updates popped in.
primilary this includes the 32bit flash and nspluginwrapper (both not the case with that QT site, though)
i get nsplugin segfaults all the time meanwhile using konqueror. all of this started about ~3 weeks ago.
since the core KDE ebuild maintainers left, i am unsure what to do. maybe i use a binary distro until all of this is sorted out. meanwhile i am using firefox myself to get a happy stable browsing. reverting back from -r3 to -r2 or -r1 didnt cure the situation. a real pitty. worked nice and smooth before.
the KDE ebuilds are in a real mess right now (IMHO). |

I'm using konqueror-3.5.5 on amd64 and it seems pretty stable. The one noticeable problem is that if I try to view multiple videos on YouTube, they stop showing up after a while and I have to revert to FireFox. But it doesn't seem to be particularly crashy. |

it is crashy, type "dmesg" and you will see something like this:

npviewer belongs to nspluginwrapper
Code: | # equery b npviewer
[ Searching for file(s) npviewer in *... ]
net-www/nspluginwrapper-0.9.91.4 (/usr/lib64/nspluginwrapper/i386/linux/npviewer)
net-www/nspluginwrapper-0.9.91.4 (/usr/lib64/nspluginwrapper/noarch/npviewer) |
Code: | # eix nspluginwrapper
[I] net-www/nspluginwrapper
Available versions: (~)0.9.91.2 (~)0.9.91.3 (~)0.9.91.4
Installed versions: 0.9.91.4(22:49:55 09/04/07)
Homepage: http://www.gibix.net/projects/nspluginwrapper/
Description: Netscape Plugin Wrapper - Load 32bit plugins on 64bit browser |
So, saying that konqueror is crashy 'cause of npviewer doesn't make much sense at all. If we wanna load 32bits plugins into our 64bit konqueror we have to "hack" our browser with wrappers and stuff like that. The same happens if we wanna watch flash videos, we have to install nsplugins32, and this type of installations make our browser more unstable (note that nspluginwrapper and nsplugins32 are marked ~arch).
Konqueror is not crashy by itself. If It is a known bug, we can file a bug report at bugs.kde.org and konqueror will be more stable in its next release.
Cheers.

sure, but my firefox is 64bit as well, and npviewer does not crash there. please note that i am *not* using firefox-bin, but the 64bit version. |

I have installed a 64bit version of firefox too (not the bin one) and it works quite well with that wrapper, but that doesn't mean that konqueror has to work the same way with a wrapper like firefox does. I think that the problem is in the wrapper itself instead of the browser.
But well, like I said in a prior post, writing that I've proved that url with IE via wine, I don't know if it's related with the wrapper at all, cause in IE I've not installed, neither enabled, flash, whatever-video-type, etc. support, and that url loads quite well. It can probably be the wrapper interfering with something else while loading the page, but I don't know ... A quick test would be unmerging nspluginwrapper, nsplugins32 and prove that url again ... If it loads well, then the problem is in the plugin itself, nor the browser. If the problem persist, it would be something else. |

well, it works fine under windows using IE, even in vmware. but thats not the point.
the wrapper *used* to work fine with konqueror, *thats* the point. since some -r releases of kdelibs/kdebase/whatnot this is not the case anymore.
same goes for nsplugins32 (debian patch, you find it in the berkano overlay). this one behaves as faulty as nspluginwrapper now.
so something has changed in the kde sources, i suppose. its the fault of one of those kde patches.
infact i am not a C programmer, i have no clue where to look at.
i even reverted kdebase/kdelibs back 2 versions, without success. problem persists.
to verify the crash, i made a testpage (contains plenty flash):
www.myspace.com/sprockytown
this works 100% on 64bit firefox, and in windows of course too.
if you visit that page using konqueror, it works the first time. if you refresh the page, or browse it a little, you get npviewer segfaulting. |

This pages loads quite well in konqueror (version 3.5.5). I refreshed the page several times, play at the same moment all embedded google videos and the others too and konqueror does not get collapsed, neither nspluginviewer segfaults. I browsed the whole page (scroll up and down, clicking on links, etc.) without problems.
Anyways, http://doc.trolltech.com/4.2/qtreewidget-members.html, has no flash videos at all, and it has little javascript on it (I disabled javascript but it didn't change the wrong behavior).
Conclusion: I don't know if the wrong behavior when rendering that trolltech page has anything related with nspluginwrapper/nsplugins or not (like I said, it's easy to find out unmerging both packages). It seems to me that it hasn't anything in common, and it could be a real konqueror bug when linking some <table> tags, with <li> tags, or god knows what.
Finally, it could be something changed it konqueror's source that make the wrapper not working well at all, but it comes so weird to me, since that trolltech page doesn't required any plugin to be displayed. It loads, the page, quite well with lynx also . If konqueror has modified its source (i don't know since I've installed stabled version from portage), it could be 2 issues:
1) They have introduced a new bug that, when requiring some plugins from nspluginwrapper o nsplugins32, makes the wrappers segfaulting.
2) It has changed something that forces a fix in the wrappers.
Answer to 1: We should report a bug upstream (kde).
Answer to 2: We should report a bug to the developers of that wrappers.
Cheers. |

yeah, well, dunno. i am using kde 3.5.6 and am at ~amd64
if i would know what fault that is, i surely *would* file a bugreport.
but i do not have a comlete changelog of the kde 3.5.6 ebuilds, so i serioulsy do not know
