I've been messing with bittorrent lately and it's awesome. If you have more than a few people downloading a file, you get *very* good download rates and none of it at the expense of the original provider of the file.
Is there a way to make portage bittorrent-ready? Especially since there's all these warnings about not wasting people's bandwidth by rsync'ing too much.
Also, imagine when the next big kde release comes out or something, the more people grabbing it = the faster everyone can grab it.
It could both reduce the load on the gentoo file servers *and* improve download speeds at the same time.
Anyway just a crazy idea. |
