Posted: Sun May 06, 2007 8:58 pm Post subject: udev creates the wrong ttyS |
|
|
I've tried this on two different computers and got the same result. Each time the system starts, udev always creates the wrong /dev file. No matter how I configure it in the BIOS, udev decides that I should use different COM ports.
Here are some information that may be relevant:
System #1: Runs kernel 2.6.20-gentoo-r7 with udev-104-r12
System #2: Runs kernel 2.6.20-hardened-r2 with udev-104-r12
grep 8250 /usr/src/linux/.config:
Code: | CONFIG_SERIAL_8250=m
CONFIG_SERIAL_8250_PCI=m
CONFIG_SERIAL_8250_PNP=m
CONFIG_SERIAL_8250_NR_UARTS=4
CONFIG_SERIAL_8250_RUNTIME_UARTS=4
# CONFIG_SERIAL_8250_EXTENDED is not set
# Non-8250 serial port support
| * Note: just tried changing both NR_UARTS and RUNTIME_UARTS to 2, udev won't even create any ttyS.
BIOS Configuration:
COM1: 3F8/IRQ4
COM2: 2F8/IRQ3

Is there a way to get udev create the device files properly? I'd like to have this done before the default runlevel starts so that any services depending on the COM port doesn't fail immediately.
