I have a pcmcia Audigy 2 ZS and an Intel8x0 builtin soundcard on my laptop, my Audigy is working fine but i can't use the laptop speakers and the only sound that the builtin card makes is that annoying bell when xdm starts and when i reach the end of a buffer in emacs.
I know thats the Intel8x0 working because when i turn off or put down the volume it affects this sounds.
lspci sees both cards and they are listed in Gnome Volume Control under "File->Change Device"
Also my /etc/modules.d/alsa is properly configured for the two cards and i use the portage drivers.
Could anyone help me with this? Thx in advance
PS.: everything works fine under Windows XP |

I also have an intel8x0 and it is working without a problem, i just followed this guide:

i did that to but thx
i really do have an hardware problem! but the onboard sound device works every now and then, and i would like the speakers to work when the intel8x0 is working (like in Windows).
Ideally i'd like to use the speakers without intel8x0, by using my Audigy 2 ZS to control the speakers. (in Windows i'm able to do this)
Anyone has a clue on this? thx in advance |

take a look at this
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_ALSA_Complete_%28includes_dmix%29#Multiple_cards
once you determine the index number of your card, each sound application must choose for it self which card it will play through. some let the user choose, like the jawesome mplayer. this is how I can play a track through the intel, my emu10k1 is hw 0.
Code: |
mplayer -ao alsa:device=hw=1 audiodump.wav
|
one may ask why you would ever want to do such a thing... but thats how. _________________ Psalm 9:16 |
