Hey guys,
I decided to reinstall my system with the new 2007.0 livecd (I've been meaning to take windows off my laptop for months) and I'm having some issues with the ipw3945 driver. If I modprobe it then type ipw3945d to start the daemon it'll say cannot create /var/run/ipw3945/<some file> sorry I'm at work and forgot the paper I wrote it down with. So ok...I mount a partition to / so that it has somewhere to create this file, then the daemon creates a process with some pid. It should work then right? I get no blinky light on my computer that says the wireless card is activated and no new eth devices are found. iwconfig lists all devices with no wireless extensions.
Anyone have any ideas? _________________ System Specs:

Why re-install? Just mkfs the now-spare partition and mount it somewhere, or delete it and have a play with gparted or similar if you feel the need to consolidate partitions.
Personally I'd be inclined to plug in a network cable and deal with the wireless at the end of the install, if you really feel the urge to re-install. |

Well I'd rather move the partitions around so my boot partition isn't in the middle of my drive anymore...I know call me anal if you wish. Now there is something up with my wired internet at the moment. No idea what it is, dhcpcd just times out when trying to acquire an address. Does mac filtering also cover wired internet? _________________ System Specs:

are u having an acer?
u have to somehow install acer_acpi... modprobe it, and enable it: echo 'enabled: 1' > /proc/acpi/acer/wireless |

Ciao,
I have the same problem, I create the missing /var/run/ipw3945 directory and do a rmmod ipw3945 and modprobe ipw3945 and get an error where it says that the install command failed. Is it possible to get some more debug output?
It works in ubuntu Feisty but I would prefer to be running Gentoo on my HP Pavillion dv9000. |

wesper...what I ended up doing was just installing it via the ethernet port. i found no solutions to my problem. _________________ System Specs:

Below is what worked for me:
Note: Execute this code right after a clean boot of the livecd
Code: | cd /var/run
mkdir ipw3945d
chown ipw3945d ipw3945d
rmmod ipw3945
modprobe ipw3945
|
Then use iwconfig to configure your wireless interface settings.
Good luck! _________________ Luc Gaboury |
