Hello,

I have an ATI x1300 with dual LCDs connected to it through DVI. Everything works fine except for a small thing that is really annoying me :)

My second monitor every once in a while (maybe every 30 seconds or so but not really consistent) goes blank for a second and then comes back on. The 2 monitors are identical (Acer AL1916) and looking in the X log file they are identified correctly through EDID.

I am running Gnome. Interestingly enough, if I am running in WindowMaker this doesn't happen, although I do notice a little bit of flickering which is making me believe that the sync rate is not right.

Any ideas on what I can change to fix this?

Here are relevant parts:

xorg:

Code:

        Screen      0  "aticonfig-Screen[0]" 0 0
        InputDevice    "Mouse1" "CorePointer"

        InputDevice    "Keyboard1" "CoreKeyboard"
EndSection

        Option      "standby time" "20"
        Option      "suspend time" "30"
        Option      "off time" "60"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
        Identifier   "aticonfig-Monitor[0]"
        Option      "VendorName" "ATI Proprietary Driver"
        Option      "ModelName" "Generic Autodetecting Monitor"
        Option      "DPMS" "true"
EndSection

Section "Device"
        Identifier  "aticonfig-Device[0]"
        Driver      "fglrx"
        Option      "DesktopSetup" "horizontal"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
        Identifier "aticonfig-Screen[0]"
        Device     "aticonfig-Device[0]"

                Depth     24

EndSection

And the log file:

Hi,

not really sure this might help but what about switching the screens / cables?

Could be a hardware problem.

I doubt it... It works fine in Windows.
My buddy also has the exact same setup and he has the same problem in Gnome.

Ok I am pretty sure that this has to do with the vertical sync rate.
When I boot into Windoze the vertical rate is set to 60Hz for both monitors.

In gentoo both monitors are set to 75 Hz which would explain the flickering.

I can force the primary monitor to 60Hz, but the secondary won't go to 60 no matter what I try.

Anyone know why?

I see these lines in my Xorg.log

(WW) fglrx(0): Option "IgnoreEDID" is not used
(WW) fglrx(0): Option "VendorName" is not used
(WW) fglrx(0): Option "ModelName" is not used
(WW) fglrx(0): Option "EDID" is not used

Hi,

try to put
Code:
    HorizSync   60
in the monitor section.

Nvidia has some special options that go to the Device section for handling secondary display,
probably ATIs driver has something similar.
