I have a new laptop with an amd64 turion TL-50 dual-core processor that I'm setting up with Gentoo. I noticed that the fan keeps ramping up and down during idle, so I looked at the CPU frequency. Even with the ondemand scheduler at idle (load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00) it spends the majority of its time at 1.60 GHz instead of the lower 800 MHz. Setting the scheduler to conservative helps a little, but it still ramps up to full speed without cause.

I'm booting with gentoo-sources-2.6.21, and the kernel options "noapic irqpoll".
