I wrote the zattoo guys a mail, asking if it's possible to make it work with 64bit ^^
Hope they a) know a way or b) fix us up with a 64bit client ;)

You could try my ebuild: http://blog.itai-otakus.de/archives/95-zattoo-bin-3.0.5.8208.ebuild.html

It is quick and dirty copy&paste'd from a previous version from zattoo, but it runs fine :)

I get

Code:

zattoo_player: error while loading shared libraries: libgnomeui-2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

and I cant resolve this with revdep-rebuild.

Code:
vmk ~ $ qfile libgnomeui-2.so.0
gnome-base/libgnomeui (/usr/lib/libgnomeui-2.so.0)

I will correct this in my ebuild later.

Thank you for the fast reply. I still cannot get it to run. Perhaps because I have an amd64 and there is still something to do?
Any suggestions?

Funktioniert wunderbar hier unter 32 Bit. Habe die aktuellste 3.0.8 Version installiert, ohne ebuild.

I tried to install zattoo 3.0.8.9191 according the zattoo linux instructions (Using the ebuilds around did not work). The xulrunner in portage seems to be too new and does not bring the libraries that zattoo requests. So I manually installed (unzip and copy to the /usr/lib/zattoo/xulrunner directory) the old xulrunner-1.8.0.4en-US.linux-i686 version that allowed to make the links as shown in the Zattoo instructions:
Code:
ln -s /usr/lib/zattoo/xulrunner/libgtkembedmoz.so /usr/lib/zattoo/libgtkembedmoz.so.0d
ln -s /usr/lib/zattoo/xulrunner/libmozjs.so /usr/lib/zattoo/libmozjs.so.0d
ln -s /usr/lib/zattoo/xulrunner/libnspr4.so /usr/lib/zattoo/libnspr4.so.0d
ln -s /usr/lib/zattoo/xulrunner/libplc4.so /usr/lib/zattoo/libplc4.so.0d
ln -s /usr/lib/zattoo/xulrunner/libplds4.so /usr/lib/zattoo/libplds4.so.0d
ln -s /usr/lib/zattoo/xulrunner/libxpcom.so /usr/lib/zattoo/libxpcom.so.0d
ln -s /usr/lib/zattoo/xulrunner/libxul.so /usr/lib/zattoo/libxul.so.0d

Additionally I had to do an other sym link /usr/lib/libcurl.so.3 to /usr/lib/libcurl.so.4.0.0 and then zattoo started with the license window :lol: . However clicking accept produced a segmentation error :evil: . Here what I see in the console:
Code:
zattoo_player: /usr/lib/libcurl.so.3: no version information available (required by zattoo_player)
zattoo_player: /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8: no version information available (required by zattoo_player)
10:03:28 PM 01/01/2008 [MSG]    Current locale is en_US
10:03:28 PM 01/01/2008 [MSG]    Welcome to Zattoo (3.0.8.9191)
10:03:28 PM 01/01/2008 [MSG]    Further log messages will be written to /home/lindegur/.Zattoo/Data/logs/zattoo.debuglog
Segmentation fault

Any Idea? :roll:
If you have zattoo running, what version of xulrunner do you have? What about the other versions (zattoo, libcurl, ...) :?:

PS. I managed to install it under Ubuntu 6.10 and I like Zattoo (under Ubuntu 7.10 it failed as well)

Big surprise :P
Zattoo is running on my up to date gentoo computer!

I used zattoo-3.1.0.11060-i386 that is now out.

I used everything from portage (including actual xulrunner version) except the zattoo player that I downloaded manually!
I used revdep-rebuild to check the libraries.
I did the missing links manually and re-run revdep-rebuild :
I did links as
ln -s /usr/lib/xulrunner/libgtkembedmoz.so.1 /usr/lib/zattoo/libgtkembedmoz.so.0d
And what was my problem so far is that some libraries delivered with old versions of xulrunner are now in /usr/lib/nspr 8O
therefore I did links as following
ln -s /usr/lib/nspr/libnspr4.so.6 /usr/lib/zattoo/libnspr4.so.0d
then zattoo_player runs now for hours problem free and I enjoy the TV guide that is now integrated in the version 3.1. :lol:

Knowing what to do makes the installation of Zattoo easy! 8)

Lindegur,

I have followed your guide, but there are still some libraries which zattoo will not find. Please have a look at the following listing:
Code:
darthvader ~ # ldd /usr/bin/zattoo_player | grep "not found"
/usr/bin/zattoo_player: /usr/lib32/libcrypto.so.0.9.8: no version information available (required by /usr/bin/zattoo_player)
        libgnomeui-2.so.0 => not found
        libbonoboui-2.so.0 => not found
        libgnome-keyring.so.0 => not found
        libgnomecanvas-2.so.0 => not found
        libgnome-2.so.0 => not found
        libpopt.so.0 => not found
        libgnomevfs-2.so.0 => not found
        libbonobo-2.so.0 => not found
        libgconf-2.so.4 => not found
        libbonobo-activation.so.4 => not found
        libORBit-2.so.0 => not found
        libglade-2.0.so.0 => not found
        libgtkglext-x11-1.0.so.0 => not found
        libgdkglext-x11-1.0.so.0 => not found
        libgtkembedmoz.so.0d => not found
        libxpcom.so.0d => not found
        libmozjs.so.0d => not found
        libplds4.so.0d => not found
        libplc4.so.0d => not found
        libnspr4.so.0d => not found
        libfaad.so.0 => not found
        libcurl.so.3 => not found
        libxul.so.0d => not found

But I am sure, that some of the libraries are present in my system. Look at the next listing:
Code:
darthvader ~ # ls -l /usr/lib/zattoo/
total 12176
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root users 10152972 Mar  5 16:40 libavcodec.so.51

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root        27 Mar 24 13:47 libplds4.so.0d -> /usr/lib/nspr/libplds4.so.6
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root        32 Mar 24 13:46 libxpcom.so.0d -> /usr/lib/xulrunner/libxpcom.so.1
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root        30 Mar 24 13:47 libxul.so.0d -> /usr/lib/xulrunner/libxul.so.1

Could you help me that zattoo recognises the missing libraries?
Thanks for all

Hello Femler,

Code:
ldd /usr/bin/zattoo_player | grep "not found"
lindegur@athlon ~ $ ldd /usr/bin/zattoo_player | grep "not found"
/usr/bin/zattoo_player: /usr/lib/libcurl.so.3: no version information available (required by /usr/bin/zattoo_player)
/usr/bin/zattoo_player: /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8: no version information available (required by /usr/bin/zattoo_player)
lindegur@athlon ~ $
is relatively happy on my machine.

It seems you have two problems

1.) The system does not find the libraries that zattoo_player desires.
When you do a link to a file that does not exist, then ln gives an error. So everything that you linked seems to be there. Linux needs something more to find the libraries quickly (dynamic linker run time bindings and what so ever). revdep-rebuild should fix that or maybe env-update or other commands as ldconfig. An ebuild would be the ultimate goal. Did you try out those commands :?:

2.) Packages containing libraries missing that need to be emerged
Code:
athlon lindegur # qfile /usr/lib/libgnomeui-2.so
gnome-base/libgnomeui (/usr/lib/libgnomeui-2.so)

Will tell you to what ebuild the library belongs. I'm not certain that it will work on your computer since the ebuilds are missing. If so let me know what packages are required. If I write an ebuild I have to know the dependencies. From the above I would guess you have not but you should
Code:
emerge libgnomeui

Do you run KDE :?:

Thanks for your answer. Yes, I am running KDE.
I checked again, the most of the mentioned libraries are present on my system :? I tried both of your suggested commands (revdep-rebuild and env-update), here the output of revdep-rebuild:

Code:
darthvader ~ # revdep-rebuild
Configuring search environment for revdep-rebuild

Checking reverse dependencies...

Packages containing binaries and libraries broken by a package update
will be emerged.

Collecting system binaries and libraries... done.
  (/root/.revdep-rebuild.1_files)

Collecting complete LD_LIBRARY_PATH... done.
  (/root/.revdep-rebuild.2_ldpath)

Checking dynamic linking consistency...
  broken /usr/bin/zattoo_player (requires  libORBit-2.so.0 libbonobo-2.so.0 libbonobo-activation.so.4 libbonoboui-2.so.0 libcurl.so.3 libgconf-2.so.4 libgdkglext-x11-1.0.so.0 libglade-2.0.so.0 libgnome-2.so.0 libgnome-keyring.so.0 libgnomecanvas-2.so.0 libgnomeui-2.so.0 libgnomevfs-2.so.0 libgtkembedmoz.so.0d libgtkglext-x11-1.0.so.0 libmozjs.so.0d libnspr4.so.0d libplc4.so.0d libplds4.so.0d libpopt.so.0 libxpcom.so.0d libxul.so.0d)
 done.
  (/root/.revdep-rebuild.3_rebuild)

Assigning files to ebuilds... done.
  (/root/.revdep-rebuild.4_ebuilds)

Evaluating package order... done.
  (/root/.revdep-rebuild.5_order)

Dynamic linking on your system is consistent... All done

I have also checked if my system recognises the libraries, the output of ldconfig is as follows:
Code:
darthvader ~ # ldconfig -p | grep libgnome
        libgnomevfs-2.so.0 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/libgnomevfs-2.so.0
        libgnomevfs-2.so (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/libgnomevfs-2.so
        libgnomeui-2.so.0 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/libgnomeui-2.so.0
        libgnomeui-2.so (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/libgnomeui-2.so
        libgnomecanvas-2.so.0 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/libgnomecanvas-2.so.0
        libgnomecanvas-2.so (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/libgnomecanvas-2.so
        libgnome-2.so.0 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/libgnome-2.so.0
        libgnome-2.so (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/libgnome-2.so
        libgnome-menu.so.2 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/libgnome-menu.so.2
        libgnome-menu.so (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/libgnome-menu.so
        libgnome-keyring.so.0 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/libgnome-keyring.so.0
        libgnome-keyring.so (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/libgnome-keyring.so
        libgnome-desktop-2.so.2 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/libgnome-desktop-2.so.2
        libgnome-desktop-2.so (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/libgnome-desktop-2.so

This looks to me as my system should know where the libraries are :? I have also tried to update ld.so.conf by an env.d-rule that the system also searches in /usr/lib/zattoo/lib, but this did not help either :(.

        libgnome-desktop-2.so (libc6) => /usr/lib/libgnome-desktop-2.so

A difference that worries me is that you have (libc6,x86-64)

Your system finds some libraries but your zattoo_player not :roll:
I run a 32bit system and zattoo_player is a 32bit binary. Are you running a 64bit system :?:
If so, you should read: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-amd64-faq.xml#multilib and http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-amd64-faq.xml#chroot32

Additionally it looks that some libraries are still missing.

Is there maybe an ebuild in layman where zattoo is inside?

There is an zattoo ebuild in the sunrise overlay :lol:
http://overlays.gentoo.org/proj/sunrise/browser/sunrise/media-tv/zattoo-bin/zattoo-bin-3.1.0.11060.ebuild
The ebuild seems to do the same thing that I did manually, so it is very promising :lol:
I did not run it yet, but using ebuilds is the much cleaner way than doing it manually, since the system remembers what has been done. :wink:

Unfortunately (or fortunately) the new Zattoo version (3.1.1) is now out, and the 3.1.0 version produces an nasty update request. :roll:
I copied it over :oops: and it works well, I also would prefer an ebuild. :roll:

i had the same problem, just locate the file with "locate xxxx" the create the symlink or edit the wrong one, you could also try (if you are to lazy) revdep-rebuild

i think i linked against the mozilla one :
Code:
locate libplds4.so
/opt/firefox/libplds4.so
/opt/seamonkey/libplds4.so
/usr/lib/openoffice/program/libplds4.so
/usr/lib/nspr/libplds4.so.6
/usr/lib/nspr/libplds4.so
/usr/lib/zattoo/libplds4.so.0d
/usr/lib/zattoo/libplds4.so

I tried to install zattoo 3.0.8.9191 according the zattoo linux instructions (Using the ebuilds around did not work). The xulrunner in portage seems to be too new and does not bring the libraries that zattoo requests. So I manually installed (unzip and copy to the /usr/lib/zattoo/xulrunner directory) the old xulrunner-1.8.0.4en-US.linux-i686 version that allowed to make the links as shown in the Zattoo instructions:
Code:
ln -s /usr/lib/zattoo/xulrunner/libgtkembedmoz.so /usr/lib/zattoo/libgtkembedmoz.so.0d
ln -s /usr/lib/zattoo/xulrunner/libmozjs.so /usr/lib/zattoo/libmozjs.so.0d
ln -s /usr/lib/zattoo/xulrunner/libnspr4.so /usr/lib/zattoo/libnspr4.so.0d
ln -s /usr/lib/zattoo/xulrunner/libplc4.so /usr/lib/zattoo/libplc4.so.0d
ln -s /usr/lib/zattoo/xulrunner/libplds4.so /usr/lib/zattoo/libplds4.so.0d
ln -s /usr/lib/zattoo/xulrunner/libxpcom.so /usr/lib/zattoo/libxpcom.so.0d
ln -s /usr/lib/zattoo/xulrunner/libxul.so /usr/lib/zattoo/libxul.so.0d

Additionally I had to do an other sym link /usr/lib/libcurl.so.3 to /usr/lib/libcurl.so.4.0.0 and then zattoo started with the license window :lol: . However clicking accept produced a segmentation error :evil: . Here what I see in the console:
Code:
zattoo_player: /usr/lib/libcurl.so.3: no version information available (required by zattoo_player)
zattoo_player: /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8: no version information available (required by zattoo_player)
10:03:28 PM 01/01/2008 [MSG]    Current locale is en_US
10:03:28 PM 01/01/2008 [MSG]    Welcome to Zattoo (3.0.8.9191)
10:03:28 PM 01/01/2008 [MSG]    Further log messages will be written to /home/lindegur/.Zattoo/Data/logs/zattoo.debuglog
Segmentation fault

Any Idea? :roll:
If you have zattoo running, what version of xulrunner do you have? What about the other versions (zattoo, libcurl, ...) :?:

PS. I managed to install it under Ubuntu 6.10 and I like Zattoo (under Ubuntu 7.10 it failed as well)

i did nearly the same as you did , here it runs smoothly i run "net-libs/xulrunner-1.8.1.13"
the difference is that my xulrunner is located in /usr/lib/xulrunner so i edited ALL the symlinks myself, and in xulrunner or
in zattoo there were no files called : libnspr4.so,libplc4 and some more. i just run "locate xxx" and then linked against the files that have been found...

my recommendation is to merge the portage xulrunner and then run revdep-rebuild for the deps...or just linke them yourself

have fun

There is an zattoo ebuild in the sunrise overlay :lol:

The ebuild seems to do the same thing that I did manually, so it is very promising :lol:
I did not run it yet, but using ebuilds is the much cleaner way than doing it manually, since the system remembers what has been done. :wink:

Unfortunately (or fortunately) the new Zattoo version (3.1.1) is now out, and the 3.1.0 version produces an nasty update request. :roll:
I copied it over :oops: and it works well, I also would prefer an ebuild. :roll:

Thanks. I will wait for the new zattoo 3.1.1 until it gets in the overlay and install it then. Could you write a message here(or pn), when the new version is inside?

I looked into the sunrise ebuild and found that it just has to be renamed to zattoo-bin-3.1.1.11916.ebuild and creating the Manifest file. After that, the emerge was successful :lol: I used an overlay portage on my harddisk. Zattoo starts well including the program guide, however when I tune into a channel a segmentation fault appears. :evil: On the same machine I previously installed it manually successfully. Even retring that now does not bring success :oops:

On a second machine (up to date) I managed to manually install 3.1.1 again :lol: . Now I try to find out the difference :?

Since I run zattoo unde KDE I have an isse with gnome-keyring and opened the following topic:

In meantime Zattoo-3.2.1 is out. Sometimes I get it working on my two computers. It has improved the channel window, that can be customized and there is also support for teletext. However mostly it fails with:
Code:
zattoo_player
zattoo_player: /usr/lib/libcurl.so.3: no version information available (required by zattoo_player)

(process:5679): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: gtype.c:2242: initialization assertion failed, use IA__g_type_init() prior to this function

(process:5679): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_new: assertion `G_TYPE_IS_OBJECT (object_type)' failed

(process:5679): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_ref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed
Segmentation fault

I don't know what is going on, sometimes it works after have done re-emerge of certain packages or ldconfig, but I can not find any logic behind. Google around points toward gnome-keyring that might be the problem. I run KDE, maybe using gnome there are less problems.

The 3.1.1 version works well on both PC's that I have.

After not being successful with 3.2.1, Zattoo 3.2.2.15122 is out and I managed to install it manually. It runs well today :lol: and hopefully also tomorrow :roll: . During the next days, I will work on a local ebuild installation. If it works, we have to see how to move it to the sunrise overlay.
