I want to set up a server for my little sister 250 miles away. they have a Touchspeed USB modem and tiscali ISP. Ive just got back from visiting and brought the box back with me - I need an intenet connection to download the drivers etc , and i didn't have an intenet connection because i hadnt downloaded the drivers!
Id like to set the whole thing up so that i can take it back , plug it in and it will 'just work' but I cant test it before I do ( ive got a cable modem connection)
Anyone able to provide me with a conf.d/net file & /usr/src/linux/.config that works that I can copy them and make sure ive got everything before making anothe 250 mile trip

Throw the SpeedTouch in the bin, they need a manual power cycle to reconnect if the connection goes down, and USB is not suited to fast Internet anyway. I'd suggest a Linksys WRT54GS, which is what I'll have in a couple of days, to replace a BT Home Hub router which is even more unstable than SpeedTouch USB was.
Edit: Be careful about whether the ISP requires PPPoA. The model I mentioned does not support PPPoA.

that is coming next, but i dont think they would be able to set one up, so its going to have to wait until Im down next. I was hoping to get the box down to them , get them up an running and then take it from there _________________ join the optout - http://nhsconfidentiality.org |
