I have a SB Live 5.1 card with 4 speakers + subwoofer connected. the card works fine, but i'm noticing an effect which is a tiny bit annoying. The sound from the rear speakers is played with a 100-200 ms delay, producing a kind of "echo" effect. I am using the latest emu10k1 drivers, and the phenomenon is heard both when playing music with xmms and when playing movies with kmplayer / xine.
Anybody heard about this? _________________ My next computer is also a Gentoo computer |

Just a thought, did you check your /etc/emu10k1.conf file to see if surround is disabled? There is a setting in the file for passive or dolby pro logic surround. |

I also experienced this issue with those drivers on my surround sound setup. I switched back to the kernel OSS drivers and they work fine in surround mode by default. Disabling surround will get rid of the effect but it just makes sound out of your front two speakers so that's kind of useless. If you do figure out a workaround I'd be interested in knowing. _________________ Meh. |

I disabled the passive surround and pro logic effects and still have all 4 speakers working. This is on my home machine so I can't post my emu10k1.conf file (yet). I have the Creative digital speakers connected to the digital output of a SBLive 5.1. I also turned off the 12dB boost to the front speakers.
I am using the OSS drivers because I was getting odd behavior with the mixer using the alsa drivers. I would set the levels of some of the "emu10k1" labled mixer settings to what I thought sounded good and when xmms would change songs or I would reboot, they would reset to levels that caused distortion. Strange, didn't spend too much time on it, I just switched to the OSS drivers by emerging emu10k1 and using those drivers not the one in the kernel config. |
