Hy...
I would like to proceed from stage1 to stage2. But the bootstrap.sh script exit with the following error message.
IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/var/tmp/portage/linux-headers-2.4.18-r2/build-info/COUNTER'
If i execute the bootstrap.sh script again, the it exits with another error message:
'/var/tmp/portage/baselayout-1.7.9-r1/build-info/COUNTER'
If i execute the scipr once or multiple times more, the second error message shows up!
How could i solve this problem? And whats the task of this file?
thx |

Have you checked your /etc/make.conf file to ensure you're using the correct settings for your CPU,etc.?

Also -- check the mailing list archives. There are some discussions about similar problems, along with a pointer to a bug report that may or may not be what you're seeing here. (are you using a PPC?)

thank's for your reply!
yes it's the ppc version of gentoo 1.2. i want to install it on my PowerBook G4, but at the moment it looks like it is'nt possible.
i checked also the mailing list archives, and i'm not the only one with this problem. but there isn't a solution at the moment if you wan't to start from stage1.
eventually i will try the stage3 package form "Mark (Gerk)" which is available at http://gentoo-ppc.macdiscussion.com/ (thx btw!).
otherwise debian got 1 user more

Moving this to the PPC forum -- you'll get better answers there.

so, now i have also done a try with the stage3 tar file, but without success
if i do an 'emerge --update world' it will fail with the same error message (No such file or directory: [package]/build-info/COUNTER).
and also when i do an emerge sys-kernel/gentoo-source it will exit with the same error message.
i haven't got a clue how to fix this problem, anybody else? |

Here's my suggestions:
emerge rsync
emerge -u portage
then try things again. I just built another system from scratch last night (iso stage1 right thru bootstrap, emerge system) and it worked perfectly for me.
Also triple check you have valid settings in make.conf (the new portage update should ensure this as well).
hope this helps

you could also try setting the date (with date -s)
the rtc in the new PowerBook G4 seems to do some strange things...
