trying to emerge -ua kde
fails with:
!!! ERROR: kde-base/kdenetwork-3.5.5-r2 failed.
Call stack:
ebuild.sh, line 1614: Called dyn_compile
ebuild.sh, line 971: Called qa_call 'src_compile'
environment, line 4716: Called src_compile
kdenetwork-3.5.5-r2.ebuild, line 68: Called kde_src_compile
kde.eclass, line 170: Called kde_src_compile 'all'
kde.eclass, line 340: Called kde_src_compile 'myconf' 'configure' 'make'
kde.eclass, line 336: Called die

interestingly it cannot find Xtst:

/usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/4.1.1/../../../../i686-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: cannot find -lXtst

any idea how to emerge the Xtst library?

I don't know if Xtst if your real problem but anyways, here you have it:
Code:
$ eix xtst
[I] x11-libs/libXtst
     Available versions:  1.0.1 {debug}
     Installed versions:  1.0.1(21:41:59 05/07/06)(-debug)
     Homepage:            http://xorg.freedesktop.org/
     Description:         X.Org Xtst library

Cheers.
