I'm running a couple of laptops on my home network, and the network (LAN) speed on one of them is horrible. Samba crawls (~50 kBps), and even ftp is slow at ~400 kBps.
It has a no-name pcmcia LAN nic in it (no native ethernet port), and running 'ifconfig eth0' gives me
Code: | eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:E0:98:93:C7:DA
inet addr:192.168.1.20 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1

TX packets:29972338 errors:11537 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:11532
collisions:754077 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:923580220 (880.7 Mb) TX bytes:2845448143 (2713.6 Mb)
Interrupt:3 Base address:0x300 |
Notice the high number of errors and collisions. Dmesg is not any prettier:
Code: | eth0: bogus packet: status=0x80 nxpg=0x5f size=98
eth0: bogus packet: status=0x80 nxpg=0x6c size=1418
eth0: bogus packet: status=0x80 nxpg=0x73 size=1518
eth0: bogus packet: status=0x80 nxpg=0x74 size=1518
eth0: bogus packet: status=0x80 nxpg=0x73 size=1018
eth0: bogus packet: status=0x80 nxpg=0x6c size=1518
eth0: bogus packet: status=0x80 nxpg=0x6f size=153
eth0: bogus packet: status=0x80 nxpg=0x7f size=1518

Outside of buying a new pcmcia card, are there any settings in ifconfig/kernel that I could use to bring the number of errors down (and hopefully performance up)? _________________ Gnome:
