It finally dawned on me that the digital-camera port on my laptop is, in fact, a FireWire (IEEE1394) port. The output of lspci looks like this:

And, lo! It works! 8O ... But...

... it doesn't seem to be using DMA. It doesn't transfer nearly as rapidly as I expected it to.

And, it doesn't seem to want to use DMA.

Am I missing something?
