Here's the deal. I just got clearance from work to build a Linux workstation for 'official use'. I plan to put Gentoo on it, but I've got a bit of an issue.
See, we use Checkpoint FW-1 as our firewall. To access outside network stuff, you have to enter a username and password on a Windows security application. So 'emerge sync' is out.
You can get out to the WWW without the application; but when you do, it pops up a window(within IE) to ask for a username and password. So this might mean webresync is out.
I can get out through HTTPS(port 443) without a problem, though - no password is needed there. Is there a portage server that will allow syncing over 443? Is there any other way anyone can think of to get out to a Portage server? |

Well.. Some of the servers seem to have https enabled, but not with the gentoo dirs shared via https.
Can you get FTP past the firewall? Because then it would be really easy |

Yes, FTP can get out, but only past the aforementioned Windows application. Goshdarnit. |
