Hi.
I'm seeing this message in my system's log mostly when I run virtual machines be it under VMWare or Qemu (I haven't tried other virtualization environments yet):
Code: | rtc: lost some interrupts at 1024Hz. |
It doesn't seem to be harmful but I'd like to know why I get these messages and what I can do to fix things. I'm running kernel 2.6.20-gentoo-r7 on a Dell Inspiron 9400 (Centrino Duo, T2300, 1.6GHz).
I also get the message if my clock maximum frequency is set to 512Hz. In fact I get the message whatever maximum frequency is set. Qemu suggests to set the maximum frequency to 1024 Hz.
Thanks for any hint/suggestion. _________________ Gentoo addict: tomorrow I quit, I promise!... Just one more emerge...

Thanks for your suggestion. I felt something like Low latency desktop might fix this but I hesitated for I wonder what eats up CPU time like this. In fact everytime I use Qemu or VMWare Server with recent kernels (2.6.20 and above) I see messages like this one.
Most of all, I also have such messages on an IBM server with dual Intel Xeon 3 GHz and hyperthreading. The virtual machine is a Windows 2000 Advanced Server. It started to produce rtc lost interrupts after I promote the server as a domain controller. In the meantime the VM clock started drifting, producing even more of these messages... As a result the clock drift prevented the domain controller from reaching the domain afterwards and I got numerous messages in the VM event log saying Windows time service was not synchronized.
Do you think I should also use Low latency desktop on the IBM host server? _________________ Gentoo addict: tomorrow I quit, I promise!... Just one more emerge...

what exactly was the fix for this issue? it seems the reply to your original post was removed.
im having the same problem; surely others would appreciate a documented solution as well.
thanks |

I don't know what the solution was in fact. All I did was to use a recent kernel, like Gentoo Sources 2.6.23 series. I haven't got such messages anymore. _________________ Gentoo addict: tomorrow I quit, I promise!... Just one more emerge...
