Hi,

I am attempting to reproduce our production server environment as a local gentoo box for testing, development, etc. The productions servers are running some pretty old versions of Apache, PHP, MySQL, etc., and I would like to mimic these as closely as possible. I see that Apache-1.* is being removed from the portage tree, and PHP 4.4.4 is already out. I would like to maintain these specific ebuilds in a local portage overlay, and so far have been able to emerge Apache-1.3.37, and the required PHP 4 version. However, I cannot get this PHP version to build mod_php for Apache 1.x (the only use flags are apache2, cli and cgi). If I try to add an 'apache' use flag, it indicates that it will build the apache sapi, but nothing compiles (unless I also add cli or cgi, but even then, it still tries to install into /etc/apache2). I expect that in preparation for its removal from portage, all Apache 1.x related flags are no longer functional in other ebuilds (i.e. mod_php, mod_perl, etc.)

So, long story short, how can I get PHP 4.4.x to build mod_php for Apache 1.3.x?

Thanks for any assistance,
Scott

This is the sad state of Gentoo for server environments, forcing people to use a specific version because it costs too much effort to maintain multiple ebuild versions. I don't really think after all the portage tree changes it's truely possible to use old versions of software if they took out the flags... I don't know you have the old ebuild for 4.4.4 with apache-1.3 support but that might be the only way with existing portage. (or make your own customized ebuild)

Else might have to manually install, or clone the existing server. I'm sort of in the same boat with my home server, but I've decided (unwillingly) to go to apache2.2... Want to set up a separate system and see what I need to do to upgrade, and likely I'll have to simply clone the old machine and work from there.

It might be possible to do if you have an old gentoo disc with an old portage snapshot.
