Hey, I've wiped out everything on my computer and i am setting up with a tri boot of windows/backtrack/gentoo, before i had gentoo/windows.
right now i have 4 partitons. 1 ntfs, 2 linux (made to ext3 using mkfs.ext3 /dev/sda2) and one swap partition.
I installed windows and then backtrack, and tried to boot just to get the easy installs up and running before i start the gentoo install again. But i get an error:
it starts loading up backtrack, then gives the following error:
Code:

Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel Panic --not syncing: vfs: unable to mount fs on unknown-block(8,3)

atkbd.c spurious ACK on isa0060/serio0. Some program might be trying to access hardware directly
...infinitely...

(note i got this error when i installed bt first, now im installing windows then gunna try to install bt, but i think i tried this earlier and still got that error)
I've been getting this error all day lol

Im not sure whtas going on, can anyone help me out a bit? i was gunna post in backtrack forums. But i love gentoo too much :)
thanks sooo much
Andrew

I think you should pay attention to the line
Code:
Please append a correct "root=" boot option

somthing wrong is in your grub.conf if you use grub

yeah i was thinking that and i've used grub always when i dual booted xp/gentoo. But bt comes with lilo so i guess im using that since i dont really have an internet connection while im installing. I'm going try to load up windows first then bt, then i'll repost in about an hour. One thing im not sure about is when on the BT liveCD. I mounted /dev/sda2 right. So i hvae a /etc/lilo.conf file, and a /dev/sda2/etc/lilo.conf file. And im not sure which one im supposed to be editing while on the liveCD. since i cant edit it once into the system because i cant get into the system. Im assuming its the /dev/sda2/etc/lilo.conf. But when i run liloconfig command. Doesnt that edit the /etc/lilo.conf one?

Thanks for your help, its been a while since ive actually done an install :(
