In firefox I like the option "Start searching when you start typing" so, as any pseudo-competent user, I check off that box in the preferences and go about searching through my web pages by just typing (As opposed to CTRL + F and then typing). The problem is, that whenever I close and re-open firefox the setting toggles off (this is also the case for a few other options as well) Because of that I believe that for whatever reason firefox is either resetting all options to their defaults or the preferences file is not writable.
In checking the firefox installation directory (/opt/firefox) I notice that all off the files have write permissions set for only the owner (which is root, as it is in /opt). Is there a preferences file I am not finding here or is it really not going to allow firefox to remember my settings? |

My apologies, I forgot to mention that part. I checked ~/.mozilla/firefox and everything there is writable (hence I then went and looked in /opt/firefox) But if all preferences are kept there, maybe it's a bug? |
