I have a touchpad that is longer than normal. I hate touchpads. This one, however, I hate even more than the others. It's longer: I have a widescreen laptop, so the designers thought it would be a good idea to make the touch screen longer too.
Too bad for me, it makes any portion of the touchpad that is longer than an exact square a scroll bar. Which means that about 1/3rd of my touch pad on the right side is a scroll bar. That's really annoying. How do I fix that? I tried emerging synaptics stuff, but it keeps saying it can't access shared memory after I upgraded it yesterday. It could access it before but now it can't. _________________ I'm too lazy to keep this stupid signature up to date, so here's something more interesting:

Synaptics requires a bunch of tweaks, especially to your xorg.conf file. You'll want to read up on the Wiki as to how to do it. Here's the URL: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_Synaptics_Touchpad#Edit_xorg.conf
You'll want to pay special attention to the option "SHMConfig" which should be set to "on". This allows your X11 synaptics tweakers (ksynaptics, for example) to access it. Then you'll be able to set it up through one of those as far as width/height.
Personally, I havn't had too much luck with the setup through ksynaptics. Either the instructions in ksynaptics don't make sense, or it's not reading my movements like they should. I've had to manually tweak that config file to set the edges properly. It's sorta trial and error in that aspect (unless someone else has some tips). _________________ -- Coplan
