I just want to know if anyone have a clue why a power supply would emit a very high pitched noise (not fan noise, more like electric whining) when plug-in even if computer is off. And if I should worry about it ?
PSU is an Antec Smart Power 450W. _________________ "May God stands between you and harm in all the empty places where you must walk" - Babylon 5 |

I would be a bit concerned, especially if it lasts more than a few minutes. Some power supplies will keep their fans running after they power-down. That may be what you hear (and maybe it needs a good dust-blowing).
If it's constant...the power supply may be failing -- a failing capacitor or something. _________________ -- Coplan

The standby power is always on - it's definately not "normal" as most powersupplies are just about silent even when "on" in standby state. However it's indeterminate if the p/s is good or bad, purely annoying - probably should ask for a swap saying the noise when "off" is botherring you.
Does it still make the noise when the ATX connector is unplugged from the motherboard? _________________ Intel Core i7 2700K/Radeon R7 250/24GB DDR3/256GB SSD
