When I use xv as my vo the picture is a little bit too wide. I've specified my monitoraspect as 16:10 in /etc/mplayer.conf, but that doesn't seem to help.
Also, when I go to full screen it takes up the whole screen instead of putting bars at the top and bottom.  |

| Alright, I took off zoom=1 and changed my Xorg.conf and now it puts the bars on the videos, but the videos are still too wide. |

Remove all monitoraspect options from your config files and try this: | Code: | | mplayer -monitorpixelaspect 1 |
If you use mplayer SVN, this option is now default. |

Worked! Wow, thanks. 
I'm not sure if this is related, but if I try to change the aspect ratio by right clicking->aspect ratio (to fix a badly encoded video) it just restarts the video instead of changing. Any thoughts? |

Gmplayer has it's own configuration file in ~/.mplayer, maybe you need to put monitorpixelaspect=1 in that file too.
As for the aspect changing problem, It's been a long time since I used gmplayer, so no idea. |
