I was wondering if anyone knew of any way to play back shoutcast streams in the console (without xmms). I looked through the mpg123 docs and it doesn't say that it can support shoutcast.

I'm glad you asked this since I have been casually looking for a solution but never really put any effort into it.

Not surprisingly, mplayer comes to the rescue. Just save the playlist to your hard-drive and then:

mplayer -cache 256 shoutcast-playlist.pls


There you go!
