Shutting Down Windows Remotely

Is there a way to get my Gentoo box to shutdown my Windows XP clients remotely over the network?

yes, you can connect using rdp and run start->run->"shutdown -s -t 0"

if you want script doing that thing, check http://www.cendio.com/seamlessrdp/ and try switching notepad with shutdown command.

that seemlessrdp does look pretty slick. But I would rather not put that seemlessrdpshell on all the computers I would like to shutdown with my linux box.

I know from windows I can just type shutdown -s -t 0 -m \\compname and it shuts compname down. Is there like a linux equivalent of that command that will emulate that command?

you can run any command with rdesktop (explorer.exe being the hidden default):

net rpc shutdown -U "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/Administrator%PASSWORD" -I xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -f

(xxx..... is the ip btw...)

On the off chance that the original poster does not have /usr/bin/net, I should point out that it is part of net-fs/samba.
