I emerged thunar - I like it, kinda but still under "Places" menu - for example there is "Home Folder" and choosing it
brings up this default file manager - how can I change this?

emerge gconf-editor

This is a little gui app which will let you change the configs for numerous gnome settings look for entries which say nautlis and change to thunar

do you mean something completly different ie not use nautilus, or change its behaviour
if you want to get rid of nautilus out of luck, nautilus is integral to gnome

Thanks - it worked but only partially - I noticed that there are some drive icons on desktop but these were
on gconf-editor under apps/nautilus - I don't have apps/thunar there where I could set respective values
I also can't change Places-Home Folder to start with Thunar - whereas Places-Desktop starts with it now...

Actually I am not sure what I want :D
I just know that in Ubuntu or so the file manager with gnome looks different. I don't like
the way how nautilus always opens a new window if I navigate to different folder. Thunar seems to be more
like the one I'd like to use - from interface - navigate with back and forth arrows and so on...the problem is
that in many of the ready icons it just always opens nautilus...

Damn you're right - it was actually nautilus I was so used in Ubuntu - just a bit pimped with
settings but all the same - thanx - now I am back on familiar appearance again...
