The Wine code has been greatly improved recently even (thanks Griswold for the inside info). To get your Windows games running make sure you have done the following:

Check

-Use the most recent version of Wine. To do so:
Code:
# echo "app-emulation/wine ~x86" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords

-Make sure to have all videomodes (1024x768 800x600 640x480) enabled in xorg.conf
-See if your game is supported consult the Wine application database
-Try executing .exe files from within their directory.
-If all else fails you can try to use the Loki installers.

Always
-Add your Test Results to the Wine Appdb. There can never be to many. The more positive results the more sure everyone can be their game is working.
-Fill in a bugreport if your game isn't working. After you added the Test Results to the WIne Appdb offcourse

Consider
Donating money to the Wine project or Crossover games.

Examples of Working Windows games in Wine

-Colin McRae Rally 04
-Commandos Strike Force
-Cortex Command
-Delta Force Extreme
-Diablo II
-Die by the Sword
-The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
-Grand theft auto - Vice City
-Farcry
-Half Life 1
-MDK 2
-Myth II
-Red Faction
-The Thing
-Thief: The Dark Project
-Ultimate Race Pro
-Warcraft 3 & Warcraft 3 The Frozen Throne

HL 1, CS 1.6, HL:OPF and Blue Shift (Steam) works. I suppose all hl1 mods should work as well.
Die by the Sword
Red Faction
(And i have tested some games that now i .37 almost work.)

You have to change the rendering mode to opengl in WC3 because if you use d3d it becomes unplayable because of the massive performance loss.
The AppDB explain how to do this.

If you don't enable -opengl, the display would look quite horrid, especially the font.

What are our requirements for "working"?

Counter-Strike: Source works really well for most people, but some of us are still suffering from this bug:

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7698

Battlefield 2 which is on the list works pretty well in single player mode, but not at all with most internet games due to PunkBuster.

Good point! My idea of a "working" game is a game that you can install and play until completion, or online for online focused games. If there are enough non-punkbuster server for BF2 I would consider BF2 "working", playing BF2 in single player mode certainly isn't my idea of a working game,

Edit:
I have made a new section for a definition of "working games". Please provide your suggestion(s) for this definition.

Cave Story works flawlessly. Unfortunately, Touhou games and CrisisDivider didn't. I saw in a Wine bug report that got Touhou games to work, at least for the first level, but they don't "work" per se without modifying WINE's source code, so I won't include those. Also I think it only works for the first level if I remember correctly.

Added. Sounds like a fun game :). I am surprised that no one is working on a Linux port...

Yeah, especially since there's a Mac port. I hate it when people make Mac ports and leave Linux users in the dust.

Games that I have been playing that work flawlessly for me include Diablo II, Starcraft, Deus Ex, Soldier of Fortune II, World of Warcraft, Commandos I, and probably others that I'm forgetting right now. But isnt there a database/wiki for this at winehq.com or something?

Yes there is, take a look at tip 4 . However results tend to differ per distribution and Wine version. Furthermore a lot of information is fragmented over the internet and I wanted to offer the Gentoo gamers a central spot where they see at a glance if their game is working with Gentoo.

Edit:
I added your games, do you remember the other games already? :)

Nice :D. Please add your test results to the Wine database: http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=7416
