|
|
We've used rdesktop for years without problems. Then suddenly it started seg faulting. It allows you to connect to the windows server and enter your login information, but as soon as you click OK, it immediately kicks back out with "Segmentation fault". Nothing in /var/log/messages or /var/log/Xorg.0.log. I've tried re-emerging, re-emerging with debug, compiling from source from the author's web site and downgrading to 2.6.20-r7 from r8. Everything else so far works fine.
We use an image to build servers as required.
This is a very basic but highly customized image with xorg, blackbox, ssh, nagios and rdesktop. The last thing I want to have to do is to rebuild it from scratch.
The most likely cause for this is a motherboard change I would guess, but it was from a slightly less capable mb to one with more features. It has the same VIA chipset and Nehemiah CPU.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks

I've found that if I keep trying to connect, eventually it stays up long enough to get to the ms desktop. But after a few moments it still seg faults. |

Looks like unmasking rdesktop-1.5.0-r2 and installing resolves this problem. Strange thing is that on my personal workstation I have r1 and it works fine. |

Spoke too soon. It seems to have resolved the problem on one server, but not another. |

Hi,
I had the same problem you describe, and have solved it by re-emerging libX11-1.0.3, thus downgrading from libX11-1.1.1 to 1.0.3.
I suppose there is something in that lib that causes the crash. I have not gone further in the investigation...
In any case, I have added in /etc/portage/profile/package.provided the following line :
x11-libs/libX11-1.1.1-r1
Thus emerge -uDva world does not try to upgrade this lib/package.

As it turns out unmasking and installing rdesktop 1.5.0-r2 did actually resolve my problem. It turns out that the version that I had downloaded from the source web site and compiled was in the path before 1.5.0-r2 so I thought it was still faulting. Once I removed the older version, everything was fine. |
