Tried with AMD64, gentoo-sources-2.6.19-grnetoo-r5 and gentoo-sources-2.6.20-gentoo-r7, ltest stable dvdbackup and libdvdread.

dvdbackup output for "dvdbackup -M -i /dev/hdc -o dvdrip -v 3"

I was able to back up my DVDs just fine, then it just strarted happening with one disc and has done it ever since.
I tried it on another 98% identical system and it gives the same error, but I had not been backing up DVDs on that system before.

Any ideas?

Turned out the disc were "protected" with ARccOS , simply used Wine and DVD Decryptor, and all is well.
