I have a laptop with a built-in microphone and it always uses it by default. When I plug my USB microphone in, in alsamixer I have no choice to select the USB mic and it always uses the built-in mic. How can I activate the USB microphone? |

You'll have to set up the second sound card in alsa.
From there, it will depend on the application as far as how to get it to use the second sound card. Which application are you using the mic in? |
